Christmas Slow Cooker Ham recipe

Another slow cooker recipe, this time combining some delicious Christmas spices along with apple juice and cloves for a deliciously aromatic ham. Take the fuss out of Christmas this year and serve this ham in place of a traditional turkey. It would also be delicious as a wintery Sunday dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1.5kg bone-in gammon joint
  • 30 cloves
  • 750ml cloudy apple juice
  • 200g dark brown sugar
  • 200g maple syrup
  • Peel of one orange
  • 2 tbsp. ground cinnamon
  • 2 tsp. ground ginger
  • 1 tbsp. ground nutmeg

Method of Preparation:

  1. Stud the cloves into the flesh of the gammon joint.

  2. Place the ham in the slow cooker and pour in the apple juice until around 5cm of ham is showing above the surface. Pack the top of the ham with the brown sugar and then pour over the maple syrup.

  3. Add the orange peel, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg to the pot and pour in remaining juice until just below the fill line of the slow cooker.

  4. Cover and cook on a low heat for ten hours.

Try serving this sweet and aromatic gammon with something simple such as boiled green beans or buttered peas. This recipe serves 12.
